press release

      Jeremy Taylor “Black Balloons”

  • “Black Balloons” is the new 10 track album by former Christchurch-based, now Wellington resident Jeremy Taylor, formerly of the critically acclaimed band Cinematic. It is being released by Christchurch independent label She’ll Be Right, and exclusively distributed in New Zealand by Rhythmethod.

  • The self-produced album was largely written in the UK, and recorded in Christchurch and Charteris Bay (Banks Peninsula) by Olly Harmer, with additional recording taking place in Island Bay (Wellington) with former Muttonbird David Long (who also guests on a track), and finally being mixed and mastered by Mike Gibson (Fur Patrol, Trinity Roots) at inca productions in Wellington.

  • Features the talents of a wide assortment of musicians, with a core cast including Cinematic’s Andrew Friend and James Guthrie, alongside Stereobus guitar whiz Francis Hunt, former Breathing Cage drummer Shane Bolingford, ex-Pumpkinhead bassist Vaughn Watson, Breathe keyboardist Steve Gallagher, and ex-Puffins Jeremy Lake and Lindon Puffin.

  • The album has a distinctly melancholic flavour, with influences from singer-songwriters such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, alongside more contemporary artists such as Red House Painters, The Smiths and My Bloody Valentine. Album tracks range from the expansive opening track “If You Want Me To Burn”, to the sonic attack of “Idiot Heart” and “Duress”, right through to the delicate “Little Doll” and “Blessed”.

  • Taylor has recently been performing solo live, including support slots for Lloyd Cole, J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr), Glenn Tilbrook (Squeeze), Bic Runga, Julia Deans (Fur Patrol), and The Phoenix Foundation.

  • Keep an eye out for upcoming live performances by new band Jeremy Taylor & The Wasted Years
