PRESS RELEASE
Album release date, JUNE 2006.
Natural accent hip-hop doesn’t seem to have a very big following here in NZ. It seems now, that the whole world uses accents and language related to the country of the hip-hop artist. NZ is way behind the rest of the world. But not for long... The change starts NOW!
For countless years Billy has sat hunched over a spotless page, staring at the ceiling and chewing on the end of an unused pen. his concerted efforts to force two words to rhyme usually resulted in one or two half-finished sentences, and pages upon pages of immensely clever doodles.
Billy owns burned copies of every Dark Tower and Trillion release to date, so when the She’ll Be Right Records wagon came trundling round the corner, the avid fan didn’t hesitate to clamber on board.
Fuelled by fried egg and gherkin sandwiches and cups of herbal tea Billy and Jody set about matching Billy’s note book entries with tunes from Jody’s beat catalogues, all this taking place during Billy’s holidays from Art School.
‘The Great Divide’ has emerged from this process, and has largely been shaped by the restraints of geography and time, with short bursts of concentrated writing and recording taking place every few months for over a year.
Billy’s lyrics arise from knowing precisely what he does not want to say…
With the success of natural accent hip-hop in Australia, The Great Divide was released with a live tour at the end of 2005 in Australia. Monumental radio play, and an overwhelming amount requests for collaborations ensure a continuous relationship with the Australian hip-hop community and media networks.

what they say about BILLY WILSON:
' no bravado, no American accent... One of the most innovative and
accomplished NZ hip-hop releases I've ever heard... Billy takes care
of the words... while Jody Lloyd provides his finest production and
backing tracks to date.
Wilson 's lyrics are smart and insightful, incorporating everything
from the ridiculous to the sublime...'
MC - Pavement Magazine
'...the album does have an exploratory nature, but one with definite
hip hop sensibilities. The Great Divide does offer something genuinely
new to the market, which to me is appealing in itself. The guys at
She'll Be Right have worked hard to develop an entirely original
project.'
Ozhiphop.com
'Maaaan i really love this shit..'
Soulstate (UK)
'the more i listen to it, the more i love it. the more i love it, the
more i listen to it. the more i listen to it, the more i love it...'
Keith (The Kenzos – LA)
'...beautifully honest, and the production is so so tight. Its more
than hip hop, It's music. I'm looking forward to having that CD in my
collection of the worthy. Very Inspiring.'
Michael (fanmail)
'...Wilson's vivid imagination and cheeky humour, teamed with
Trillion's dense melodic beats made The Great Escape the most
innovative hip-hop release out of NZ in 2005.'
Brendan Webb – Awakenings Records (Australia)
